We think we are invincible and are stupid (thinking we know everything, BECAUSE of the codling) enough to get behind the wheel drunk. But many kids live their life like they will live forever (which is not a bad mentality AT ALL, but there is a difference to living life to the fullest and being reckless). I learned very early to cherish and pursue life to the fullest. I have had a real experience with death (my father) at a young age. But without a real experience, it’s more of a scary story than a piece of our everyday life and history. Not that I am condoning predators or shooting, I would never condone ANY of that. But unless your child has some form of real connection to something like a predator or shooting, it’s not Real. I mean sure you can give them (your kids) a credit card with a limit, or allow them to run around the mall by themselves with warnings of predators. which instead of helping actually stunts our growth as people. The whole mentality of our culture has changed to ‘shield’ our children from the harsh reality of the world. Now if you get an ‘F’ your parent goes to the teacher and ask “What did you do?” and “How could you let this happen?”. 40 years ago if you got an ‘F’ your parent would respond with “what did you do?” or ” how could you let this happen?”. And I ask “Why?”.Well, when I was discussing with my uncle we also talked about the parenting style, and how that also affects everything that happens. Anyone can watch a movie from the 80’s or 90’s and see bullying, but honestly I have never truly witnessed bullying in my school. I love this whole part because the author is just saying ‘This happens to everyone, you are NOT special.’. It doesn’t know who you are and it doesn’t care.”(pg 11) Our current generations has been so coddled that we all think we are special, and we’re not. “Resistance is a not out to get you personally. In the 1960’s 20% believed they were special, in 2010 about 80% (I would cite but I cannot find the article). It was a study done on 12th graders who believed they were special. A “recent” study we discussed about was one done in the 1960’s and done agin in 2010. Well this weekend I was discussing with my uncle about generations, and the differences and privileges ours has compared to others. “Why?” you may ask (you probably didn’t ask but I needed to make the transition). My assignment currently is to read up to page 32 (Not hard so I really shouldn’t have to procrastinate AT ALL) and discuss a piece of the text that speaks to me personally. A great thing about The War Of Art by Steven Pressfield is that every chapter is a page long.
